Ja'Darius Boyce
Student Intern, USDA APHIS Center for Animal Welfare

Location: Charlotte, NC United States

About   (request update)
Ja'Darius was born December 26, 1991 in Rock Hill, SC to Tarsha Boyce (mother) and Joseph Sellers (father). He graduated from Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, SC in 2010. That same summer he enrolled into South Carolina State Universities Academic Enhancement Academy, a six week program, graduating with a 3.50 GPA. Ja'Darius was then a full time SC State student within the Computer Science undergraduate degree program. Ja'Darius met a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Talent Acquisition (Jamaal Maurice Pearsall) at an on campus career fair his junior year at SC State where he was unknowingly interviewed for an TMCF internship position at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an IT Project Manager in Atlanta, GA. Little did he know, Ja'Darius also had a position to fill that same summer at Lockheed Martin at the IT Project Manager role in Atlanta, GA. This was his very first internship, Ja'Darius wanted to make the best of and bring the most out of it. Ja'Darius wanted to gain as many professional connections there was possible, at TMCF, CDC, and Lockheed Martin and that's exactly what he did. Gaining a strong network of professionals is how Ja'Darius landed his next federal government internship within the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) division of the United States Department of Agriculture in Kansas City, MO working at the Center for Animal Welfare. Here in Kansas City Ja'Darius had landed an IT Specialist role where he improved organizational efficiency by designing and authoring a training management page, and new employee training page using Microsoft SharePoint for the Centers Team to manage training assets of Animal Care. Animal Care is often asked by regulated and non-regulated stakeholders and industry partners to take the lead and provide guidance on animal welfare issues. The program is now poised to more completely fulfill its leadership role with the APHIS Center for Animal Welfare. Ja'Darius will be returning for the Fall 2014 semester at SC State University for his final undergraduate semester.
