An advocate for access to education for all, Sojourner Marable Grimmett has worked in higher education for over a decade in the areas of enrollment management, student affairs, diversity and community outreach. In her current position, she serves as a Leadership Studies Fellow at Morehouse College in the Andrew Young Global Leadership Center. In her previous position as the Assistant Director of Student Access Program and Services at the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), she was responsible for coordinating the Academic Common Market. This 16-state regional program enables out-of-state students the opportunity to pursue degrees at over 150 institutions at in-state tuition rates. Having served in several leadership positions at the Savannah College of Art and Design, in 2005, she was selected along with 25 other colleagues, to open the new SCAD-Atlanta campus. The campus grew from 77 students in Spring 2005 to nearly 1,000 students in Spring 2007. As Assistant Director of Recruitment, Sojourner managed the SCAD Buzz Bus which makes frequent surprise visits to local elementary and middle schools and youth-centered organizations to promote the arts through one-on-one student workshops, book readings, musical performances, and art-supply donations. To date, the SCAD Buzz Bus program has positivity impacted more than 8,000 Savannah and Atlanta children. As an AmeriCorp member for The W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard University, Sojourner taught Microsoft Encarta Africana to middle-school students bridging the digital divide gap. Recently named a "Top Mom Blogger" and "Social Media Influencer," Sojourner empowers thousands of readers and viewers monthly on her blog, "Married with Two Boys." An entrepreneur, Sojourner works as a social media consultant with Fortune 500 companies locally and nationally. Sojourner's community work has allowed her the opportunity to be featured on FOX 5’s ‘Good Day Atlanta’ with Dr. Oz, Atlanta & Company, Better Mornings Atlanta, Channel 11, Channel 2, Atlanta Tribune, AJC, and CNN.
