Janelle Richards is an associate producer at Nightly News with Brian Williams. She has conducted research and field produced for day of air stories and long-term special projects. Richards has pitched and produced “Making a Difference” stories and she has produced content solely for the web about New York community programs. Richards has also filled in as line producer for the broadcast. She joined Nightly News in 2011 as a staff researcher.

Prior to working at Nightly News, she was a participant in NBC News' "News Associates Program," a production talent development program. While a News Associate she worked for Weekend Today Show, theGrio.com and Nightly News with Brian Williams.

Richards is a 2009 graduate of Spelman College, and a 2010 graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Richards has interned at CNN, WSB-TV, CBS Newspath, and the National Association of Black Journalists. In 2011 she was awarded NBC’s ovation award for her research on the Nightly News “America at the Crossroads” five part economy series.

Claim To Fame:
- A story I produced with NBC News Chief Education Correspondent Rehema Ellis aired this past week on Nightly News. It is a Making a Difference story about the Kings County Tennis League- a program in Bedstuy, Brooklyn that is teaching kids how to play tennis. Link: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/3032619/#52919555 - I accompanied a Nightly News producer to Washington,D.C.to help cover the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington on Saturday, August 24. I shot interviews with march attendees and field produced various story elements throughout the day. - Another "Making a Difference" story I produced that aired this past June is about "Harlem RBI" and "Jason Medina's Ward 7 Baseball". Both Harlem RBI and Jason Medina are inspiring kids in New York City and Washington, D.C. to play baseball and reach high levels of success in school.
