About   (request update)
My name is Sam James and I a native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, which is 66 miles from Kitty Hawk,NC ,where the Wright Brothers took their first flight. I am from a family of twelve, 8 sisters and 3 brothers.
My father was a self employed carpenter and plasterer with only a 7th grade education and my mother was an antique dealer and often went to auctions.
As a 7th grader, my guidance counselor convinced me to pursue a technology career based on the information I gave her, which was a high interest in math, science and I like building and constructing things .So she devised a high school curriculum for me where I took all the higher math, science and technical courses that were required to prepare me for that career choice.
While in high school, I played football, baseball, soccer and was a member of the honor society, the art club, drama club and was voted most likely to succeed by my peers. So after high school I attended Elizabeth City State University in 1987 and majored in Industrial Technology with a minor in electronics.I was active in intramural sports and was a walk on for the ECSU football team.
In July 1987,I was hired by NASA Langley research Center in Hampton,Virginia to work in the Aerospace Composite models and development section. My job is to provide NASA's research and development team with the fabrication of scaled research wind tunnel model aircraft and spacecraft concepts for collecting research data on their structural and flight characteristics.
In may 1989 I became an educational outreach presenter for kids k-12 and the designated tour guide for my branch.
In my spare time, I also model part time for Wilhelmina models of Richmond,Virginia doing mostly print work and videos for ADS.
