I was born and raised by my parents, Henry L. Brodie Jr., and Jean Jackson Brodie in Henderson, North Carolina (Vance County). I had five sisters, and no brothers. Two of my sisters and mother are deceased. I graduated from Vance Senior High School in 1977 and began my college career at WInston-Salem State University, in Winston-Salem, NC. I graduated from WSSU in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. After working with the school system for a few years, I decided to follow my dream and join the military, I have always had a passion to do this. In 1986 I enlisted in the United States Navy. While in the Navy I obtained a second Bachelor's of Art Degree in Business Education from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. I received numerous awards, citations and letters of recommendations. I was nominated and name Sailor of the Year for the U.S. Navy and was honored in Washington, DC where I had an opportunity to tour the White House, and be presented an award at the Pentagon. After completing four years of active duty, I remained in the reserves for two more years before being Honorably Discharged. I obtained employment at Kittrell Job Corps Center in Kittrell, NC and taught Business Education for 14 years. I received all kinds of awards and recognitions. I was Educator of the year and flew to Utah to receive my award and I was featured in the National Job Corps Newsletter. I started working in the public school system in 2008 at J.F. Webb High School in Oxford, NC. I taught there for five years and I currently teach middle school at Butner-Stem Middle School in Butner, NC. While at J.F. Webb I was the Cheerleader Coach and FBLA Advisor (Future Business Leaders of America). I am currently the Secretary for the Middle Baptist Association, Sunday School Teacher, and Youth Director at my Church (Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Kittrell, NC). I sing on the choir, usher and do announcements. I am President for the graduating class of 1977 and serve as Parlimantarian for the Vance County Rams Club (National Association). I am a member of the NCACTE (North Carolina Association for Career and Technical Education) and NBEA (National Business Education Association) I have been married to my husband Tony for 25 years and we have one son Davarus. We have also been blessed to raise four other children: Shelonda, Latasha, Octavius and Jazmine and are grandparents to five grandchildren. I am currently working on my Masters at North Carolina Central University in Durham where I am pursuing a Masters in Instructional Technology. I will be graduating May 2014.
