My name is Micheal Bowman, and I am a junior Honors college student pursuing a five-year dual degree program at Claflin University, in partnership with Clemson University. My major is Applied Mathematics and Civil Engineering. Upon completion of the program, I will receive degrees from both institutions. I am a native of Orangeburg, SC, where I graduated high school in the top five percent of my class. My parents are Mr. and Mrs. Bernard (Phyllis) Bowman Sr., and I am the youngest of four children. My siblings include Bernard Jr., Tavin, and Christopher. I am actively involved around campus and will serve as Mr. Junior and the President of the National Society of Black Engineers Chapter at Claflin University for the 2013-2014 academic school year. Remaining on the Honor Roll and Dean’s List since my first semester of college, I have been inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success, an Honor Society for academically talented students. I interned this summer with the United States Department of Energy Savannah River Remediation, where I worked along with an engineering team designing structures and pipelines to safely treat high radioactive waste in accordance to specific standards and procedures. I enjoy learning new things, applying the knowledge that I have obtained, being active throughout my community and school, writing, singing, sports, and spending time with family and friends.
