A passionate trainer, prolific writer, awesome coach, and an EAGLE-EYE editor – these are the titles earned by Dr. Marćia Riley, author of four books on written communications.
Marćia completed her graduate degrees at Florida State University in 1979. She has done post-doctoral work and completed courses at Ohio State University, George Washington University, and Dartmouth College.
She has been employed as an assistant professor at Western Kentucky University and adjunct professor at Tusculum College. Marćia taught writing courses for KELLER Graduate School of Management as part of their adjunct faculty. She served as an associate graduate faculty member for Central Michigan University/Extended Campus Program and taught Grammar classes at Georgia Institute of Technology. Currently she’s a visiting professor at the University of Illinois/School of Public Health under their HRSA Grant.
Marćia has published business and non-fiction articles for academic publications, magazines, and journals; a periodical in Canada and a training compendium in China. She has also designed a writing style manual for environmental engineers and geologists, as well as edited several books. She served as a columnist for the Tennessee Tribune writing articles on “Edit Like a Pro.”
She has written, edited, and revised documents on subjects ranging from marketing to training to computer technology. Marćia writes, edits, transcribes, and designs various documents through the firm's Information Transfer Services. She is the author and senior trainer for PEPTM (Processing, Editing & Proofreading), WIPETM (Write in Plain English) and GRAMMAR Rammer workshops. Marćia was selected as regional editor for Contempora magazine; editor of two state and two national newsletters, as well as Pulitzer Winner for Excellence in ski club journalism. She was also selected to present her instructional writing techniques at PLAIN International Conference in Australia and Sweden. Marćia’s held membership with the American Medical Writers Association, National Writers Association, Editorial Freelancers Association, Plain Language International Network, Clarity, and SPELL. She served as a regional representative for the International Women's Writing Guild, a founding member of Georgia Writers, Inc., and an associate with Writers of Atlanta.
She has served on the Board of Directors for Maryville College, Anthony J. Cebrun Journalism Center, and Board member for the Atlanta Chapter of Women Business Owners.
Marćia serves on an international panel of experts as a ClearMark Judge to evaluate and select documents written in plain language (http://centerforplainlanguage.org/awards/criteria/clearmark-judges).
Recently she was awarded a contract to write a book on writing techniques for Bookboon, a global publisher in London.
Since its inception in 1980, EA Incorporated has provided hundreds of successful written and oral communications training to government, corporate and academic clients across the country. Training groups consist of SES (Senior Executive Service) employees, engineers, managers, students and administrative staff. Dr. Riley has received awards of excellence for training programs and selected to present writing techniques abroad.
Dr. Riley’s recent accomplishment includes producing a FREE ebook: Write Like A Pro that achieved a download count of 85,703 within six months according to BookbooN publisher (http://bookboon.com/en/textbooks/career-job-search/write-like-a-pro). She also developed a YouTube demonstration that complements the ebook (www.writelikeapro.biz).
