About   (request update)
Exiting from my mother’s womb was the best thing that ever happened to her; well at least that’s what I believe. The day I was born was the day my whole family’s spirit lightened.
Growing up in Oxon Hill, Maryland was a very bland, yet interesting experience for me. Throughout my childhood I never really traveled anywhere exotic. I spent most of days in Maryland, where I went from school, to school, to school. I have been to four elementary schools, Forest Heights, Saint Thomas Moore, Kettering, and Barnaby Manor, one middle school, Shugart, and one high school, Suitland. I have plenty of memories from each of these schools, but the most memorable is Barnaby Manor. I fell in love with Barnaby Manor because this is the school where I found my hidden talents, drawing and writing. I still remember my first drawing. I drew my old cell phone resting in the palm of my left hand, and boy was it horrible; however, as I practiced more my drawings and sketches were better than ever.
Growing up I was surrounded by a loving family that I, until this day, love greatly. My family is very large, but we try to all stay in contact. I absolutely love when it is the holidays because this is the time when the whole family gathers together, tell stories, play games, and my favorite, eat. On each holiday such as, Thanksgiving and Christmas, we encourage Potluck, where each family member brings in a dish. My cousin Shane usually brings the macaroni and cheese, my aunt makes honey barbeque meat balls, my uncle cooks all the meat like, honey baked ham, goat, and turkey. My mother and I usually make the sweet potatoes while other family members usually bring the potato salad, the string beans, and the baked beans with ground beef and pineapples. Yummy. During the time that we eat my family begins to tell stories about past events that occurred and memories of all the younger children. The stories that my family has told me about my child hood is very humorous. From the way I use to run around and act wild to the days I use to make people smile with my silliness. I remember one story my cousins told me about how they use to constantly throw me up in the air as if I was a rag doll, and I would just laugh. All I could do is laugh at the story because it seemed as though I enjoyed being thrown around. Every time my mother hears this story she would laugh and promise when either of my cousins have kids she will be sure to do the same. The one thing I love about my family is that we do not fight. We might have our disagreements about things, but we do not let that affect our love for each other.
Throughout my whole life I did not have a father, but this set back has never brought me down or discouraged me because I have my mother, who is amazing, and I have my uncle that acts as a father figure to me. He has done everything for me since I was a baby until now. To him and to the rest of the family I am like their little angel. I never actually understood why I am so special to everyone. Maybe because I am the only child or maybe because they know I have goals and I just might be the first generation to attend college, which I am.
When it was time for me to think about my future and choose a major, I knew I did not want to be like others. I did not want to study biology and be a doctor or study criminal justice and be a lawyer, I simply wanted to design. I have always been creative and have a special love for computers. Two of my cousins went to school for Computer Science and Information Technology, but I wanted to take a different turn and choose a career that represents me: Graphic Design. In the 11th grade I took a course called Computer Graphics and fell in love with it! Learning Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator was interesting to me. It is a lot of tools and techniques to learn, however it is so amazing just to know that one can create something beautiful by using a computer. My cousins that wanted me to pursue a dream in Computer Science or Information Technology were disappointed because Graphic Design jobs are not guaranteed, the field is extremely competitive, and graphic designers do not make much money, but I love the choice I made. I want to wake up every day enjoying what I do. Despite my choice, I do know that everybody has high expectations for me. I want my whole family to know that I will make each and every one of them proud of me because I can honestly say that I am willing to work hard to achieve and accomplish my goals.
