Claim To Fame:
Well I'm not really seeking to be famous, but I do aspire however, to make a difference in the lives of those who I come across. In our culture today there has been a normality adapted in the lives of so many people, a state of comfort that has made so many people complacent, and are willing to settle for mediocrity. Due to a lack of high aspirations, and the seeking of a life that is significant and praise worthy, many falter into giving up on their dreams. Me on the other hand, I want more for myself and those around me. Growing up in the hills of Montego Bay Jamaica, I knew what poverty, hardship and hopelessness was. My mother raised four boys in the midst of circumstances where the pressure was so heavy that her melodious laughter could not hide the strain and fear that she felt. But regardless, she still pressed on, because she wanted a better life for her boys. She was firmly rooted in her faith and trust in God, and the understanding that " He never gives us more than we can bare" this belief kept her from buckling under the pressure. Being the "mommas" boy of the pack, I was always clinging to my mother, this gave me the opportunity to know my mother in ways that my older and younger brothers could not see. I was given deeper insight into the qualities of a woman who from the outside is as harmless and gentle as a lamb, but on the inside she is as persevering and courageous as a lioness, my queen I call her. The next quality that I was given more deeper insight into was my mothers love for God, and it was not always this way. Growing up I saw how she fought back at any resistance that came her way, through her complaining and attitude towards trials. However, as time went on she started to let go of her grip in wanting everything to go her way, and then just trusting God in knowing that ultimately He is the one that is in control. Seeing and witnessing these things in a way changed me, I learned a lot from my mothers, but unlike most mothers my mother didn't really teach my brothers and I the true principles of life through her words, on the contrary she exemplified them through her actions. And so if I was to say I have a : Claim to Fame" it would be those principles, demonstrated to us in her life. Hard work, Hard Faith, Hard Love, and living a life that is in service to others not self.
High School: Edison Tech in Rochester , NY class of 2007
