Kendrick R. Tilghman, known as the #1STEM DJ and the stage name "DJ 5Starr - The General," is a Baltimore Entrepreneur, DJ, Educator and Outreach Specialist. He is a premier Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) advocate. His company, 5 Starr Enterprise vision is to become the number one resource for S.T.E.M. workforce diversity. His company educates and empowers communities to play more active roles in S.T.E.M. related curriculum and fields, which in turn will create greater opportunities in advanced education training and a diverse workforce. His company’s initiative B.E. M.O.R.E. S.T.E.M., which stands for Bringing Everyone More Opportunities and Relevant Experiences in S.T.E.M, is a National initiative to engage and excite communities about S.T.E.M. careers. Once excited their second initiative, the D.E.N.T. Group, delivering educational needs together, is information technology I.T. Training courses for adults, to get them employed. He has been the master of ceremonies of A-list events for conferences, corporations, nonprofits, schools and others. He has conducted “Edutainment” workshops at six Innovative S.T.E.M. Conferences. He has been featured at three National Society of Black Engineers National Conferences, including the Becoming Everything You Are, or (BEYA S.T.E.M. Conference); he was also invited to the White House HBCU initiative for his unique efforts of engagement. He has traveled as far as the University of Alabama at Huntsville to make presentations. Locally, he was the Keynote speaker for the Maryland Associate for Resources for Family and Youth (M.A.R.F.Y.) Awards Banquet and has presented at Reginald F. Lewis High School, Old Court Middle school and The Living Classrooms Foundation; all of whom conclude that Mr. Tilghman’s BEMORESTEM initiative is how you put the WOW in S.T.E.M. It is his hypothesis, that if we increase creative thinking, it will increase academic performance. Mr. Tilghman has been spotlighted in multiple publications, including The Baltimore Business Journal. He was the featured DJ at three Soulful Symphony Concerts, Pepsi’s “You be the DJ” contest winner, Baltimore Crown DJ of the Year, and the Living Classrooms Foundation Rising Stars winner; Ray of Hope STEM Award and the District 18 Communication and Leadership Award from Toastmasters Internationals. His top accomplishments are: his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering and Masters of Business Administration from Morgan State University. Finally, he devotes time at his church, City Temple of Baltimore (Baptist) and is a devoted husband to Carole L. Tilghman. Additionally, he is an active board member of the Innovative STEM Foundation, Secretary of the Black Professional Men (BPM), Member of Community Tech Organization (CTO), Social Media Chair for the D.C. Chapter of the National Black Masters of Business Administration Association (DCBMBAA), board member of the Greater Black Baltimore Chamber of Commerce (GBBCC), and a Competent Communicator in Toastmasters International.
