About   (request update)

I graduated summa cum laude from Howard University with a degree in psychology and a minor in community development while attaining the Certified Nonprofit Professional credential (CNP). I have done lots of community work, including acting as the first campus ambassador and student board member of Operation HOPE, teaching at Title I schools in DC and working as an AmeriCorps VISTA building the capacity and sustainability of Friendship Place, a nonprofit working to end homelessness in DC. According to my mother, I have been writing creatively since I was about 8 years old living in the south suburbs of Chicago as a first generation suburbanite. All of my family hails from the Southside of Chicago by way of Alabama. All my life, I've just wanted to write and help people. I envision a Utopian society where everyone is free to live as their authentic selves and improve the world around them. I first started working towards that mission by founding Creative Thought with my best friend James Couch. Creative Thought was a life skills seminar program we used to bridge the cultural gap between the youth ministry and the elder educators of a Christian ministry in Hazel Crest, IL. Creative Thought was a faith-based organization with no religion but love, education and progress. That is why we were able to successfully bridge that gap. Creative Thought eventually grew into Authentic Reflection and here we are today.
