Marion A. Wright is a manager for theater with expertise in stage management, production management and event coordinating, logistics and execution. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Stage Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science in Theater with a minor in Education from Florida A & M University. From 2000-2004 Marion served as Production Manager at New WORLD Theater, a nationally and internationally recognized multicultural & multidisciplinary theater company located in Amherst, Massachusetts. She has served on the stage management team for numerous theatrical productions including plays, musicals, opera and dance. Additionally, she’s worked at theaters and presenting venues around the country, such as Dance Theatre Workshop in New York, the Family Theatre at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, The Court Theater in Chicago, and Alliance Theater and Horizon Theater in Atlanta. In addition to her work as a manager, Marion has forayed in to directing plays including: The Vagina Monologues, The Colored Museum, Jar the Floor, The Odd Couple, The Glass Menagerie, Fabulation, or the Re-Education of Undine, Agnes of God, The Shape of Things, Fat Pig and more. In the summer of 2013 Marion served as Associate Producer for PG Entertainment’s inaugural production of Crowns in Atlanta, GA featuring Pauletta Washington, is currently Stage Manager for the world premier of BOOM!, for the Cynthia Oliver Dance Company which debuts at New York Live Arts in October 2014 and has served as a panelist for Black Theatre Network and the National Conference On Race and Ethnicity.

Marion has taught classes and workshops at the University of Illinois, University of Massachusetts and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda and since 2004 has been a Lecturer in Drama at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. There she teaches: Theatre Insight, Script Analysis Stage Management, Contemporary Drama, Women In Drama and Theatre Management. She also advises first year students and teaches First Year Experience. Her college service includes Faculty Development Committee from 2005-2007 and since spring 2011 she’s been a member of the Community Standards Review Board for Student Affairs. In the Department of Drama and Dance Professor Wright directs plays for the season, is the Audience Services Manager and is faculty advisor for Spriggs-Burroughs Drama and Dance Ensemble Professor Wright is known for her rigorous academic standards and high expectations, but also understands that students need a stable and consistent support system in order to reach and understand their full potential. She believes a student’s education extends beyond the classroom and is regularly available to both current and former students for academic, professional and personal advise. Her teaching philosophy is simply: Students First.

Additionally Marion finds time to serve to community and volunteered for Passion for Life, Inc. a four year career and life coaching program that encourages and guides at-risk high school students to pursue their passions and turn them into careers and TeenAngels Society, Inc., a non-profit organization that exists to groom young girls into ladies of high confidence, class, and character.
