I currently serve as the Chairman of Emergency Medicine at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center a position he has held for the past five years. This department serves over 100,000 patients per year. I serve on several hospital committees including, Emergency Management, Risk Management, Graduate Medical Education, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, the Trauma Committee, and the Medical Board. I hold several academic appointments including State University of New York Downstate Medical School and the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. I regularly lectures on medical-legal topics at Fordham University School of Law’s “Law and Medicine” course. I am active in teaching and I am the Director of the hospitals Cardiac life support courses. I am an instructor in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Disaster Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
I am extensively involved in pre-hospital care with over 14 years experience. I have served as faculty at the New York City EMS Academy, Deputy Medical Director of NYC Fire Department EMS system, and Medical Director of Trauma Quality Assurance for the 911 System. Among the offices I have held are the Chairman of the Trauma Center Standards Committee, Testing and Training committee (responsible for evaluation and testing of Advance Paramedics who work in NYC) and I currently serves as the Chairman of the NYC Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee. I have used my expertise to assist other physicians by serving on the New York University Advisory Committee for the Management Education of Physicians. I was elected to Fellowship in the prestigious New York Academy of Medicine in 2005.
I also served on Statewide committees. While working for NYC Fire Department I was a member of the New York State Trauma Advisory Committee’s QA subcommittee. I currently represent the NYC REMAC on the NY State Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (statewide prehospital policy and protocols) and I was recently appointed as the Chairman of the Medical Standards Subcommittee and as a member of the NYS State Emergency Medical Services Council Executive Committee. The Medical Standards Committee is responsible for evaluation and development of statewide EMS standards, review and approval of regional protocols and evaluation of use of medication and medical equipment in the prehospital setting. Dr. Marshall is also working with the NYS Department of Health in revising the State Trauma Center regulations and the Emergency Department Standards. He has also served as a member of an Appeals Committee for the Department of Health and has provided expert medical opinions for DOH proceedings.
On the National level, I served in physician membership organizations at the National level. Over the past two years I have been intimately involved in the development and establishment of the American Board of Disaster Medicine and the American Academy of Disaster Medicine. Dedicated to insuring that those who prepare our Nation’s health systems for disaster have the requisite knowledge and skills to protect our citizens. I am an instructor in Basic and Advanced Disaster Life Support. I deployed to Louisiana for two weeks after Katrina with FEMA working in a special needs shelter.
