Q&A With Kiara Davis

(interview me)
Kiara Davis

Location: Nashville, TN United States
Joined: Dec 29th, 2014
About   (request update)
My name is Kiara Davis. I am from Jackson, Michigan. I am currently attending Tennessee State University studying Social Work and Psychology. I come from a single parent home in a very small town in southern Michigan where our teen pregnancy rate is highest in the state for cities with a population of more than 20,000, and majority of our urban youth end up going to prison or not seeking higher education. Given the circumstance of my environment and family background, I wasn’t supposed to go to college or even leave the state of Michigan. I believe that with the right support and dedication, anyone can be anything.
Current Whereabouts:
• Community Service • Case Management • Mental Health • Education reform
Life & Professional Aspirations:
Simple interactions with children have turned into a desire for change and involvement in the youth. I want to be an advocate for change and advancement for those who are underprivileged because I myself have been deemed underprivileged. This is why my field of interest is social work. I want to be the support system that most of our troubled youth do not have. Even if throughout my career I only impact a couple of dozen children, I know that I have personally made a small dent in the world, because my teachings and principals and procedures of reform instilled in those couple of dozen will be passed onto another dozen, thus creating change on a macro level. I aspire to work within the juvenile system; whether it’s being a correctional counselor, defense lawyer, or a legislature advocating policies for change, I will leave an impact.

Guestbook Comments
“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” ― Mahatma Gandhi
