MONICA WOOD is Lead PR Strategist/Owner of MWPR, Inc. (Monica Wood Public Relations), a full-service female-owned/operated Public Relations consultancy. Founded in 2004 by the 20-year PR industry veteran, MWPR, Inc. offers its clients specialized services in crisis management, brand development, community outreach and faith and sports PR.

Wood’s extensive PR knowledge and keen sensibility to public opinion has made her a highly sought-out specialist to a host of popular personalities, brands and organizations. Her 11-year old firm has helped elevate the message of such clients as Entertainment/Sports Attorney Daniel R. Meachum, Actor Wesley Snipes, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., The Park Church, Author Dr. Ella L.J. Bell, and Retired NFL Player Keion Carpenter.

Before launching her firm, Wood worked for Golin/Harris, an international public relations firm where she co-managed the McDonald’s account – one of GH’s largest and longest tenured Corporate Consumer clients as account group supervisor. Wood also played a key role in the development of GH’s Diversity Specialty Practice and has extensive experience in reaching the African-American market.

Prior to GH, Wood built a career managing marketing programs, communications and special events for major retailers, publishing and advertising companies, including The Rouse Company and The AFRO-American Newspaper Company. As director of promotions and charities for the AFRO, Wood developed and executed promotions and marketing campaigns highlighting the AFRO’s rich history within the African American community to its readers as well as the general market. As promotions director, she created, produced and hosted the AFRO’s weekly public affairs talk show then called “AFRO Tuesday Edition” on Morgan State University’s radio station WEAA 88.9 FM. In April 2006, Wood returned as host of the weekly radio show until January 2007.

Recognized for her successes, in December 1997, Presstime Magazine spotlighted Wood in their annual special edition as one of "20 Under 40". This national recognition highlights the accomplishments and contributions made by 20 professionals under the age of 40 to the newspaper industry. In June 2007, Wood was recognized as the “Distinguished Service” award recipient by the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc.

The 2013 “Who’s Who in Charlotte”, has been invited to speak or conduct workshops on all facets of PR by several national & local professional and community organizations and universities including Johnson C. Smith University Sports Management Class (Featured Speaker, 2010); the National Council of Presidents (Presenter, 2008), National Black Public Relations Society Annual Conference (Panelist, 2007 & 2013); Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Annual National Convention (Workshop Presenter, 2007 & 2008); and, Morgan State University - Earl Graves School of Business "Entrepreneurial Series" (Featured Series Speaker, 2005).

A third generation graduate of Morgan State University, Wood holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech. The May 2015 Duke University, School of Divinity graduate, Master of Arts in Christian Practice is president of the South Charlotte Chapter of National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) and, a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists.
