(interview me)
Natasha Scruggs
Limited Practice Attorney, Hinds County Public Defender

Location: Jackson, MS United States
Joined: May 21st, 2015
About   (request update)
Natasha's inspiration to be a great attorney is her uncle Samuel "Shimmy" DeBoise. Her uncle educated her on police brutality and was sadly tasered to death by the police when she was 17 years old. Although she had always wanted to be a lawyer, the death of her uncle and other police brutality incidents of her family members fueled her fire. Scruggs entered college on a scholarship at Missouri Southern State University. In 2011, she transferred and subsequently graduated from Jackson State University in May 2013. In the beginning years of college she was on the women's basketball team. In the latter years after she transferred to JSU, she became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated and remains a financially active member. Her senior year she was the chapter president and received the "Most Valuable Soror Award" from the JSU National Pan Hellenic Council. She then immediately entered law school on multiple scholarships. Since beginning law school, gaining legal experience has been a priority for her. In the past two years she has clerked for a judge, worked a limited practice attorney, and worked as a clerk in the Mississippi Supreme Court (details in resume). Natasha has big dreams when it comes to her future. Currently, at the start of her 3L year, she gained a position as a limited practice attorney at the Hinds County Public Defender's office. After receiving her law degree, she desires to use her creative talents and abilities to build an empire. Her desired practice area is criminal defense and plaintiff's attorney in cases against law enforcement. Natasha is a modern black female entrepreneur. She plans to start a law firm following graduation that will truly impact the community in Atlanta, GA. Simultaneously she plans to use her platform in television, radio, literature, technology, publications, and community service. Natasha believes that she can achieve her highest dreams and is willing to bet on herself to do it.
