Reverend Samuel L. Jenkins, Jr. is a 1979 graduate of Wilberforce University, and a Platinum Life Member of the Wilberforce University Alumni Association. In the spring of 2014 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Wilberforce University Alumni Association, and now serves as Chair of the National Membership Committee. He was President of the Greater Chicago Chapter of the Wilberforce University Alumni Association from 2011-2014. He was awarded a WUAA Distinguished Service Award at the WUAA National Alumni Conference in Memphis, TN in 2014. Rev. Sam is now leading the national membership campaign called 1000+ in 2015; with the goal of having one thousand Wilberforce Alumni with their national dues paid.
Rev. Jenkins has served for foty years in Christian ministry. Rev. Jenkins has been a pastor for more than thirty-four years. He has served congregations in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. Rev. Jenkins served as the founding pastor of the Ekklesia AME Church, in the Overbrook Community of Philadelphia, PA. While serving as pastor of the Bethel AME Church in Bristol, PA he led the church in the largest capital development program in its 137-year history called Cathedral 2000. While he was ministering in Bristol, PA, America was gripped with a crisis of churches being burned in hate crime based arson fires. Rev. Jenkins responded to the crisis by putting together a team of volunteers and going to Orangeburg, South Carolina to help rebuild the Butler Chapel AME Church. A local news reporter and photographer accompanied Rev. Jenkins and his group of volunteers. The news reporter received a national press award for a weeklong series of articles written from the work site of the church rebuilding.
Rev. Jenkins has always believed in the ministry beyond the walls of the church. He chaired the Inter-Faith Council of the United Negro College Fund in Philadelphia. In Bucks County, PA he co chaired a conference on cultural diversity, and coordinated a conference on economic development for the NAACP and the Black Clergy. He also served as founder of African-American Clergy of Bucks County.
In University Park, IL, Rev. Jenkins founded and chaired the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee. He served as President of the Far South Suburban Clergy Alliance for several years. Rev. Jenkins is a former member of the 100 Men Association of University Park. He has coached youth baseball, and was marketing coordinator for the Regional Coop Supermarket of University Park.
Rev. Sam Jenkins is a graduate of Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, OH where he studied pre-theology, economics, and political science. He has done graduate course work at the Lutheran School of Theology at Philadelphia, and is currently in the on-line Master of Divinity program at Payne Theological Seminary, Wilberforce, OH.
Pastor Sam has been married for thirty-five years to Rev. Wanda C. Henry-Jenkins. Their family includes their adult daughter Jazmine, their married son Joshua and his wife Tiffany, who have blessed them with four grandchildren: Sanaa, Nilah, Jaleel, and Jade. Rev Sam’s wife, Wanda has been his co pastor, partner in ministry, and best friend. According to Rev. Sam, “Wanda is the love of my life”.
