About   (request update)
I am a nontraditional student who was a foster child from 12 until 14. I am a product of an interracial marriage and grew up in Charleston/North Charleston SC. I have lived in New York City (48th and 8th), New Jersey, Maryland, South Carolina, Florida, and Colorado. I have raised large birds, worked for a modeling agency, acted for 2 years in Colorado and worked as a Boat Captain at Universal Studios Florida. All of these experiences have contributed to my journey toward this moment.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
Since I was a foster child and vividly recall the confusion and emotional stress which resulted from that experience, I have always wanted to help others in the same situation in an effort to help them avoid some of the pitfalls I encountered and still battle in the present. Issues of self esteem, self worth and doubt as well as anger and depression are all tied to the period in my life in which I thought that I was not worthy of love or a permanent family. These issues are a large part of the reason why I am a nontraditional student because I doubted that I would be able to succeed in school as well as thinking that I could not afford it. I would like to continue my education in Social Work and Psychology in order to utilize aspects of both fields to the benefit of foster children and other children in the social services system. I believe that an all inclusive approach is more beneficial to the youth than a separate caseworker and therapist. Upon completion of my Master's degree in Social Work, I intend to return to either attain a second Master's in Psychology or earn a PhD (or PsyD) in Psychology.
