Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman is a professional creative who has built an expansive career as a playwright, educator, journalist and performer. Khadijah is founder of Liberated Muse Arts Group which began as a digital community and production house of the Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest in 2008 (under the auspices of the now defunct Liberated Muse Productions). Since then, she has transitioned Liberated Muse into an interdisciplinary creative company specializing in performance entertainment. Khadijah’s plays and services, produced through Liberated Muse Arts Group, have been commissioned by the Smithsonian Museum, United States Peace Corps headquarters, DC Public Library System, Artscape Festival, Baltimore Book Festival and other venues catering diverse populations. Liberated Muse, also a publication entity, has published two book anthologies edited by Khadijah, Liberated Muse Volume I: How I Freed My Soul (2009) and Liberated Muse Volume II: Betrayal Wears a Pretty Face (2012) that are available on Amazon.com and other online book sellers. Through Liberated Muse Publications, she published her own poetry chapbook Revisionist Tale in 2010 in limited release. Savvy both behind-the-scenes and in the limelight, Khadijah is noted for her strong support of the independent arts scene through her work as an independent writer who has written for both commercial and non-commercial media. Khadijah’s bylines as an arts and news writer can be found on Ebony.com, SoulTrain.com, ForHarriet.com and other digital and print spaces. Khadijah has a appeared on numerous stages as a performer, including the famous Apollo Theatre in New York when she appeared on the television show Showtime at the Apollo after wins during the weekly Amateur Night at the Apollo off-screen. As singer Khadijah Moon, she released her first single “Unbound” in 2013 with an anticipated follow-up LP to be released in 2015. She is listed in the Maryland Arts Council Artist Registry and Poets & Writers Registry. Khadijah’s work is far-reaching. As an educator and speaker she has shared her expertise in digital media, communication studies, gender equity, African-American issues and the arts for notable brands such as BlogHer, Ignite DC, DC Commission on the Arts, Capital Fringe and more. She was listed on the 2016 Walker’s Legacy #Power50 List and is a recipient of a 2015 Individual Artist Award for Non-Classical Music Solo Performance by the Maryland State Arts Council. She was recognized in 2012 as one of the Top Forty Under 40 in the Arts & Humanities by the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund. In 2014, she was appointed to the Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board by County Executive Rushern Baker where she served until 2015. She currently is the host for 5th Tuesdays poetry open mic at Busboys & Poets in Washington, DC and a doctoral student at Morgan State University.
