My name is Marhalia (MARR-hay-lee-uh) Jean Baptiste and what makes me special is that I want to see a global citizen. Claim To Fame:
I also am majoring in Documentary Filmmaking. My claim to fame is that I really value freedom. I want it for myself and other, including animals (I'm a vegan). You only get one life, so you should be able to enjoy it freely and fairly like the next person. I will never support the taking of life from anyone or anything whether that means the killing of animals, people, or even someone having to work more than one job and still not be able to support themselves and/or their families, I don't see that as free
Most Memorable Moment:
I haven't started the semester yet so what I've been doing for the most part is getting to know the staff and my Spelman sisters. One of the best memories I made so far was at lunch one day. It was three of us and we had all met that day within the same couple of minutes. 2 of us were from Brooklyn, Yazmin and I, and the third girl was from California, Assata. Yazmin was talking and in NYC we use the term "mad" in a sentence to mean a lot or really, an exaggerating word. When Yazmin used the word, I completely understood where she was coming from and exactly what she was trying to express. Assata on the other hand was utterly confused. It was the funniest thing that happened the first week being here at Spelman. It made me realize how truly different us black women could be, I always knew but it had never been as clear as it was that day. It gave Yazmin and I a good laugh that I for one really needed.
High School: James Madison High School in Brooklyn NYC, NY class of 2019

Activities & Accomplishments:
High School Senior Year Awards Recipient of the President’s Education Awards Program, it recognizes graduating high school students who “meet high standards of academic excellence and those who have
Best Memories:
Honestly, seeing my hard work pay off. Seeing myself get perfect scores, knowing I work hard on assignments and having my teachers be proud of me, it made all that worrying about a result feel good. The day of my AP government test, when I knew I definitely would get 5 because the test was so easy. Just all the moments I had where I felt my hard work was not in vain.
