My name is George Rivers III, and I am a college student at Virginia State University. I enjoy playing college football, the saxophone, and being an engineering student. I know that my dedication to learn and passion for pursuing a degree in manufacturing engineering will benefit my community. I am currently majoring in engineering at Virginia State University and plan to use my degree to help the global economy. I desire to learn more about the manufacturing field. I live in a very rural county in Maryland. Our local community depends on crops and resources supplied by our local farms. I have had an interest in development and manufacturing for a long time. I desire you use my skills and passion to make our planet safer and stronger.
Current Whereabouts:
I once asked myself the question, "Why do we try to fit in with others that fail to value our self-worth?" It may be because we want to fit into a certain crowd or feel popular. In the past, I know that I personally struggled with self-esteem issues and what others thought of me. When I began high school, I was not always a confident person. I experienced a lot of criticism and peer pressure in my early high school years. I allowed others to place limitations on me. Then something happened, I started believing in myself. I showed the heart of a champion by committing to my school work and showing others my value, work ethics, and integrity. I am now a sophomore at Virginia State University, and I have grown spiritually, academically, and as a young man. I was able to turn thoughts of worrying about what others thought of me to a world of knowing my self-worth. I no longer allow others to define my abilities, I define my life on my terms now. I am excited to be an ambassador for the VSU engineering program. This allows me to speak to the local high school students and answer question on majoring in engineering. I love engineering, and I cannot wait to graduate and start my career.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
I am a very motivated college football player, saxophonist, and engineering student. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught me a lot about the importance of producing products in our local communities. I believe this period of time was the most meaningful experience in my life and made me want to become an engineer even more. The lack of toilet paper, hand sanitizer, meats, vegetables, and essential items made the United States evaluate manufacturing protocols in America. The demands on businesses are high, and it takes a qualified team to market, research, and provide quality products to the public. I desire to learn more about the manufacturing field. We live in a very rural county in Maryland. Our local community depends on crops and resources supplied by our local farms. I have had an interest in food science and production since middle school. I have dreams of one day being able to help the economy on a local and global level. For this reason, My long term goal is to obtain a degree in manufacturing engineering. My biggest influence in my life has been my father, George Rivers Jr. I have watched him sacrifice and provide for our family for years. He does not complain and always puts his family first. I want to model my work ethics after him. He has encouraged me to follow my dreams and never give up when the road gets tough. The transition from high school has not been easy but I know that it will pay off in the future.
I am sophomore at Virginia State University. I spend most of my time playing college football with a group of amazing coaches and players. I also am an ambassador for my mechanical engineering program. I visit high schools in the local area to let them know about the engineering program and answer any questions they may have.
