Choosing to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) was a decision deeply rooted in my experiences growing up in Jamaica, a third-world country characterized by the challenges of limited resources and the necessity for strong community bonds. Amidst these struggles, the sense of community played a pivotal role in overcoming hardships, shaping my core values around diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and, most importantly, community engagement. This upbringing instilled in me the belief that collective effort is essential for achieving common goals, mirroring the ethos of HBCUs.

HBCUs represent more than just academic institutions; they embody a rich history of resilience, empowerment, and a deep commitment to community.
