Claim To Fame:
I used my entrepreneurial skills to create my own domain for the transaction of goods and services. I found that students who don't have access to professional grooming took interest in my craft. There wasn't anyone on the campus who had the dexterous skills to deliver consistent services for cosmetic matters, particularly in the hair and scalp care market. I took it upon myself to make the most of my gift and try to be the best barber in Tuskegee, and in those moments I believed I was. I wanted everyone and everything sitting in my barber chair. At this point, the business got pretty overwhelming and I had to make a choice for the distant future. Take cutting even further or focus on a deeper educational career. I chose the latter. I appreciate what I learned during my tenure in the industry more now than I did when I was involved. Just reminiscing about it makes elated for what is to come.
Most Memorable Moment:
Fall semester 2018; It was a cold winter in Tuskegee, Alabama. My two brothers, roommate, and I were without natural gas utilities due to a leak in the setup. The landlord was unable to repair the gas system at our house address. In our case staying on campus inside college buildings with operational HVAC systems was much better than staying home. For the first 4 out of 5 months we were without heat. Some nights we'd wrap our bodies and limbs with t-shirts and jackets because of the lack of comforters in the house, and the morning after we'd walk to campus just to take a shower in the dorms. Some nights I would join my roommate and we would nap in his car with the heat turned to maximum just to delay the frigid truth. Throughout all of that distress and anger we found comfort in our brotherhood. Even though we didn't live in ideal conditions, there was an abundance of contentment.
