Raghan Pickett is a direct descendent of the Rosewood Massacre- a horrific tragedy that resulted in the complete erasure of an economically thriving black town. This horrible stain on Florida’s history, and connection to her family history has enabled her to be politically inclined. Raghan is a highly accomplished student who continues to exemplify success, servitude, and student leadership. Upon graduating in the top 3rd percentile of her high school class, she matriculated to Florida A&M University in the summer of 2020 where she is currently studying Political Science & International Affairs. She has become a servant for her community and agent of political change. At a very young age, Raghan understood the importance of political power and the strength that we carry when exercising our right to vote. In only high school, she was able to assist the residents of her community with registering to vote, and informing them of the political candidates--both local and national.
In addition to her communal efforts, she has exhorted herself in all aspects of her college campus in Tallahassee, Florida. Raghan currently works in her residence hall as a Resident Assistant. She manages a floor of 28 diverse undergraduate students, facilitates monthly programs, and ensures they are up to date on pertinent information regarding school-life. She also serves as the Community Service Chair of Big Sister Little Sister Mentoring Organization and the Political Affairs Director for her collegiate chapter of Florida A&M College Democrats. In only her second year of academia, Raghan was selected to partake in Miami-Dade School Board Member, Luisa Santos’ Fellowship. She worked on the Policy Team where it was her duty to write policy briefs that addressed the scholastic issues that students were facing in Miami-Dade County. As a non-resident of that county she still worked tirelessly to ensure that their needs were met. She stands firm in the belief that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” This past summer, Raghan had the esteemed honor to represent Florida A&M University at the inaugural Summer Security Studies program at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Washington D.C., where she networked with United States Ambassadors, Political Analysts, and members of Congress.
Raghan claims that it is because of her family’s rich history and connection to Civil Rights that has enabled her to be extremely politically inclined; and solely responsible for the woman that she is today. Her experiences with being a black woman in America and her direct history of racial violence and suppression has provided her with the ultimate experience of diversity. She hopes to utilize these experiences and education to help fight for equality amongst marginalized people of color, and advocate for political change.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
Raghan aspires to work in public policy because she is driven to advocate for marginalized people of color, and she plans to utilize her education to make direct change within her community.

Best Memories:
My best high school memories includes implementing a Black History Month celebration and collection of events my senior year.
