I choose to attend my HBCU because of the family environment. From the moment I came to Virginia Union University, I instantly felt the love and care in the atmosphere.

I was a homeless student who had nowhere else to go. I didn’t have no more resources to provide for myself and I realized I needed help. My social worker assigned to me at the time was an alumni from VUU and when I told her my story, she offer to help me get into school. During the open house, I was welcomed with opened arms on campus and provided a place to stay. A lot of the faculty and staff helped me decorate my dorm and helped me get settled financially on campus. From that moment on I knew I had a support system who cared about me.

Since enrolling at Virginia Union University, I have excelled in the standards of excellence. I was the first and only VUU student selected from scholar programs with companies such as Capital One x Thurgood Marshall, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Apple, and Accenture. I was also the only HBCU student on the FARE, Financial Alliance for Racial Equity, panel as a panelist. As a freshman I had crossed Zeta Phi Beta Inc while maintaining Presidential Scholar status.

Attending an HBCU has not only helped me reach my goals towards my career path, but it also help me build my character. Being at VUU defined who I am as a person by having representation, petit me express my platform, and challenging myself to go above an beyond what I could ever imagine.
