I am Donya A.R Conley, a junior attending Howard University studying to become an award-winning director, writer, and producer that will eventually lead me to owning a production studio. To accomplish my career goals I have taken the path of surrounding myself with fellow creatives, indulging in camera technology, involving myself in master classes about film technicalities from Issa Rae and Spike Lee, building experience in creating a film portfolio through a website, and creating shorts to endorse myself in all opportunities presented through film. As I am still developing my cinematic skills I know the dynamics of my films will be associated with advocating positive Black stories on screen and within media, reflecting my Black community within the Bay Area.

Intern: Computer Science Summer Institute|
Google
From June 2021 to July 2021 • 0 year(s)
This program was a coding institute that seasons students on computer software and coding techniques. During this program, I was challenged to go out of my comfort zone and try something new. Even with my hesitation towards this institution, it taught me more than just the basics of coding and technology. This taught me that I can succeed in an unfamiliar area of expertise and flourish. By the end of the program, I successfully completed a game on glitch with the help of my partner. I am not interested in coding nor a technical background but I am willing to learn about something that I am unfamiliar with that will eventually help me to grow in the skills of my field.
Legislative Speaker |
Club Stride Organization
From January 2021 to June 2021 • 0 year(s)
I was a legislative speaker who advocated for racial justice in my community by being the voice for the voiceless. With weekly meetings about the passing of the bill specifically AB 124(Second Opportunity Sentencing), which is a bill to reduce defendant's sentencing when victimized from domestic violence. I was familiarized with the passion and drive for justice. The term no justice no peace flourished in this program, I learned that giving up when the fight is hard is not an option and even was introduced to Tim Grayson a California State Assembly Member, and Bill Dodd a California State Senator, who provide a letter of recommendation for me. Conversating and listening to the wisdom of my peers helped me to advocate for myself in college and even uplift other people who do not know how to stand up for themselves.
