Melvin Ishmael Johnson. I was born in the Mississippi Delta - on December 1, 1947, in Greenville, Mississippi and I graduated from Coleman High School (1966). After High School, I attended Mississippi Valley State University and Delta State University.
I served in the United States Marine Corps (1969-71). After being honorably discharged from the services, I attended Eastern Michigan University. In 1973, I Co-Founded the African Renaissance Theater Company of (Ypsilanti-Ann Arbor), Michigan. (1973-1980) with Darrell Dean, Josh Webb, and Robert Ingram.
At present I am the Director of Dramastage-Qumran Veterans Theater Workshop (dramastage-qumran.org). Author of plays: Surviving the Nickel, Catch the Tiger, Number One Recruit, Nail Heads, The Loyalty Oath, and The Emperor's Last Performance

Claim To Fame:
Co-founded: the African Renaissance Theater Company at Eastern Michigan University in 1977. Ypsilanti, Michigan with Robert Ingram, Darrel Dean and Josh Webb under the Direction of Professor Franklin Case. I directed his play, "Mad Cap and Gown".
Most Memorable Moment:
I actually attended Mississippi Valley State University in 1967 and Delta State University in 1968 before entering the United States Marine Corps in 1969 and coming out with an honorable discharge in 1971.
