Most Memorable Moment:
My best college memory was career fairs and networking events, which enabled me to interact directly with various companies face to face. It suddenly felt as if we’d discovered a world waiting to be inhabited, an array of opportunities at our feet, ready and eager. A feeling of thrill combined with some anxiety accompanied me every time I approached the booths, resumed at hand, and anticipated to impress. By discussing with individuals from various companies, I received direct insights into several industries and the vastness of others regarding potential career paths that may be available. Likewise, I gained an understanding of their existing job opportunities. The revelation of their experiences, company cultures, and skills that they value in any potential candidate was, therefore mind, mind-opening. Every discussion was an incredible opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, leading my way deeper into the professional world outside the classroom. Besides, these discussions made me focus on my concise and practical formulation of the goals I strive for, my strengths as an employee, and my ability to implement them into reality. It made me feel uncomfortable, but I learned to communicate better on a lower level. Making myself known as an intern and opening doors within my field while making meaningful connections with other professionals in this endeavor requiring confidence was not something innate. For those last few weeks, one could see considerable personal development from thereon working backward. I could understand what jobs were available in the industry and formed connections and networks within this field. I found my compatriots with similar interests, well-wishers who offered helpful tips, and working professionals who today serve as mentors. In hindsight, those field moments of interacting with companies were more than about getting jobs; they entailed personal development, discovery, and relationships that would influence my professional life for a long time. This was one of the defining moments in my life in college, which I’ll never forget and cherish.
