Claim To Fame:
In the bustling corridors of Howard University, admits the amalgamation of diverse cultures and backgrounds, my claim to fame emerges not from academic prowess or extracurricular achievements, but rather from a simple yet profound gesture: saying hello to everyone. Hailing from the South, where hospitality is ingrained in our very essence, this act of extending warm greetings became my defining characteristic, elevating me to a position of recognition and admiration within the university community. From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I was determined to break the barriers of unfamiliarity and forge connections with my fellow students. Armed with the values of inclusivity and kindness instilled in me by my upbringing, I embarked on a mission to ensure that no one felt like a stranger in our midst. Whether traversing the campus grounds were navigating the crowded hallways, I made it A point to offer a friendly hello to each person I encountered, regardless of their background or social status. At first, my southern charm may have seemed out of place in the urban landscape of Washington DC, but soon enough, its genuine sincerity began to resonate with my peers. In a fast-paced world where individuals often pass by each other without a second glance, my simple gesture stood out as a beacon of warmth and acceptance. Students from all walks of life found solace in the familiarity of a friendly greeting, and gradually my reputation as the “Southern ambassador” of Howard University began to take root. My journey at Howard University has become a testament to the power of human connection in the transformative impact of southern hospitality. By bringing a slice of my heritage to the North, I have left an indelible mark on the fabric of campus life, proving that sometimes, the greatest achievement is not found from grand gestures but from the simple act of saying hello.
Most Memorable Moment:
Participating in the Howard University alternative spring break stands out as my most cherished college memory. As a first-year student, I embarked on a journey beyond the typical spring break destinations to volunteer in Memphis TN. Together with my peers we dedicated our time to serving underprivileged children, revitalizing and fostering a safe and inviting space for them. The journey from Washington DC to Memphis was on a bus and fostered camaraderie, and as we worked side by side, we not only beautified the environment but also formed deep bonds. Worshipping together further strengthened our connection and sense of purpose. This experience has profoundly enriched me, igniting a passion for philanthropy that continues to drive my actions beyond college.
