Claim To Fame:
During my sophomore year of college, I co-founded the Society of Women in Business. This is a student organization unwavering in its commitment to uplift, mentor, and inspire women on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University. Our mission is to incite professional growth and forge a formidable network of diligent, hard-working women. Throughout my time on the executive board, I've planned and executed multiple events including a budgeting workshop, a resume review session, study halls, and a "What to Know Before You Go" internship bootcamp. My time as a leader in the organization has been rewarding, and I am elated to have one more year to lead this group and leave my mark on the campus.
Most Memorable Moment:
My most memorable college moment occurred during the Spring semester of my sophomore year. At the time, I was majoring in biology and was on the pre-med track. Additionally, I was the secretary and V.P. intern of A&T's chapter of the Undergraduate Student National Dental Association (USNDA). Four days into the new semester, the deadline loomed for changing classes or declaring a new major. I’d contemplated the idea of switching from the College of Science and Technology to the College of Business and Economics for quite some time. Yet, fear held me back. Being on the pre-med track was a safety net. I had planned out my life for the next 8 years: graduate from A&T, go to dental school, and complete a residency program for pediatric dentistry. I had a goal, and I was on track to achieve it, but I wasn't happy. I knew that if I followed through with the life I’d planned for myself, I’d have a lucrative, but unfulfilling career. So, hesitantly, I walked over to the College of Business and Economics and met with the chairperson of each department to explore alternative majors. I submitted my paperwork to switch my major to supply chain management about 15 minutes before the application closed. This happened over a year ago, and it marks a profound shift in my collegiate career. I overcame familial expectations and fear of the unknown to make the best decision of my life. I am where I am today because I took a risk and bet on myself.
