We studied how adolescent alcohol exposure impacts a variety of psychological and behavioral factors in adult mice. We have specifically examined the bed nucleus of stria terminalis (BNST) and central amygdala (CeA) function in the modulation of these behaviors. My projects consist of using RNA in situ hybridization (RNAscope) technology to analyze the expression of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and CRF type 1 receptor in the CeA post adolescent intermittent ethanol vapor exposure and adulthood stress exposure.
Research Assistant | UC San Diego
From July 2022 to August 2022 • 0 year(s)
I participated in studying the role of specific histone deacetylases (HDACs) in the modulation of histone acetylation. To assess the modulation of chromatin associated histone H3K9 acetylation (H3K9ac) in HeLa-S3 cells, we exposed synchronized cells to various HDAC inhibitors (TSA,NAM, RGFP966, and EX-52). We observed changes in acetylation using immunofluorescence, immunoblot (Western blot), and ChIP sequencing. Each HDAC inhibitor is selective for certain deacetylases, and were used to determine which deacetylases are most active during mitosis. My specific role in this project was to help optimize Western blot protocol and develop supplementary images. I presented my personal research findings as well as those of other lab members during the Summer Research Conference at UC San Diego.
