Research Scholar | Howard University
From August 2022 to May 2023 • 1 year(s)
I gained hands-on research experience in astrobiology and extremophile physiology, focusing on tardigrade locomotion and cryptobiosis. I conducted environmental sampling, performed microscopic analysis, and applied data analysis techniques using ImageJ and R Studio to measure locomotion changes before and after anhydrobiosis. Additionally, I developed skills in experimental design, statistical analysis, and scientific writing to interpret and present my findings. This experience enhanced my ability to conduct independent research, synthesize complex biological concepts, and communicate findings effectively.
Research Scholar | Howard Hughes Medical Institute
From August 2019 to May 2020 • 1 year(s)
The Science Education Alliance Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Sequencing is a program hosted at Howard university for advanced research students. Research Scholars recieve advanced training in, collection of environmental samples, Preparation of agar plates and purification of bacteriophage samples, DNA Extraction, PCR, Sequencing of bacteriophage genetic code using DNA Master, Bacteriophage was entered into the national database
Junior Researcher | Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science
From August 2016 to May 2019 • 3 year(s)
I received specialized training from research professionals at Penn State University and Hollidaysburg High School in molecular biology, environmental science, and biomedical research techniques while conducting independent research projects and presenting findings at regional and state symposia level Alzheimer’s gene testing o Collected saliva samples from volunteers for genetic testing o Utilized Western blot and gel electrophoresis to detect Alzheimer’s-related genetic markers o Gained expertise in protein analysis, molecular diagnostics, and biomedical research o Applied critical thinking and problem-solving to assess gene expression data o Developed strong laboratory documentation, technical reporting, and research presentation skills o First place award at regional and state symposia Combatting Ocean acidification with Microalgae o Monitored pH changes in water samples exposed to various microalgae strains o Conducted extensive literature reviews on carbon sequestration and marine ecosystem impacts o Applied experimental design, environmental analysis, and quantitative data collection techniques o Second place regional symposium Paternal vs Maternal gene detection using polymerase chain reactions o Performed gel electrophoresis to analyze DNA samples for maternal and paternal genetic markers o Gained experience in gene analysis, sample preparation, and molecular biology techniques o Developed skills in data interpretation and electrophoretic analysis o Special Judges Award for advanced project in age group o First place regional symposium, Third place state symposium
