Hi, my name is Ryland Coleman, and I’m a sophomore at Howard University, majoring in Television and Film with a minor in Business at the Cathy Hughes School of Communications. What drives me most is the power of storytelling—specifically, the ability to reflect and elevate the voices and experiences of underrepresented communities. As a young Black woman, I believe our stories deserve to be told with authenticity, creativity, and care. That belief has fueled my passion for film and digital media, and it’s at the heart of everything I do. At Howard, I’ve taken that passion and turned it into action by creating a platform called Bison Girl Chronicles, where I document student life, celebrate campus culture, and use storytelling to build community. It’s helped me grow as a creator, a communicator, and a leader. My academic journey is shaped by a deep curiosity about how media influences culture—and a clear vision for how I want to impact it. I’m committed to creating content that not only entertains but empowers—and to one day lead projects that bring meaningful stories to life. This scholarship would provide critical support as I continue that journey—helping me stay focused on my goals, take on new opportunities, and grow into the media leader I aspire to be.
