Claim To Fame:
My claim to fame in college is being the girl who kept going no matter how many times life knocked her down. I started at Albany State University in Fall 2019. I was on campus, excited and focused, until everything changed in March 2020 when COVID-19 hit. We had to evacuate campus in the middle of the semester, and I had to quickly adjust to a virtual classroom with no warning. Still, I didn’t quit. I returned to campus in Fall 2020 hoping for some stability. But by Spring 2021, I experienced one of the hardest losses of my life, my grandmother passed away. She was a big part of my support system, and losing her made me take a step back. I made the decision to leave campus and go fully online to take care of myself mentally and emotionally while still working toward my goals. Through it all, I earned my Associate of Science in Health Sciences and graduated in 2022. That accomplishment reminded me that I was built for this. In Spring 2023, I came back stronger than ever, starting my journey toward a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Management with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. Now, I’m a full-time online student, a full-time mom, and a full-time dream chaser. I’ve turned pain into purpose and setbacks into stepping stones. My claim to fame isn’t just surviving college, it’s rewriting the story on my own terms.
Most Memorable Moment:
Some of my most memorable college moments aren’t just about what happened, they’re about how those moments made me feel. I’ll never forget moving onto campus my very first year at Albany State. It was exciting, it was new, and it was my first real taste of freedom. I had my own space, I met new people, and I was stepping into a new chapter of life with so much hope. By my second year, I moved into an on-campus apartment-style dorm. That was a whole new level of independence for me. I cooked faithfully every single day. I felt so grown and so proud of how I was taking care of myself. Even though there were parties, campus events, and new faces all the time, I found joy in the little things, like making my own meals and knowing I was handling life on my own. But honestly, my favorite college memory just happened recently. I emailed the chair of the master’s program, asking if I could take graduate-level courses this upcoming spring and they approved me. When I read that email, I felt overwhelmed and excited. That moment reminded me just how far I’ve come. From dorm room cooking to master’s-level coursework, my journey has been far from easy but it’s mine. Every moment, every milestone, and every small win has made me who I am today. And I’m only getting started.
