About   (request update)
As a rehabilitation nurse technician at Ruston Regional Specialty Hospital, I worked closely with patients to help them regain their independence and improve their overall wellness. My role involved assisting patients with a variety of routine tasks, including feeding, bathing, dressing, exercise, incontinence care, and minimizing rashes, sores, and soiling. In addition, I was responsible for gathering dietary information and monitoring intake to help patients achieve nutritional objectives and support their wellness goals. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job was making a positive impact in the lives of my patients. Claim To Fame:
As a member of the Shreveport Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association since February 2025, I have taken on the responsibility of improving health outcomes for my community by focusing on culturally competent healthcare services. My involvement with the National Black Nurses Association has allowed me to participate in various community-based health programs. These initiatives are designed to provide preventative health screenings and education on critical health issues that disproportionately affect African Americans. I regularly offer screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol, common chronic conditions in our community, along with tests for HIV and COVID-19, which have become particularly significant in the wake of recent global health crises. By providing these essential services, I help facilitate early detection and management of health conditions, which is crucial for better health outcomes. My work with the Shreveport Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association emphasizes the importance of culturally competent care in bridging health disparities. Through health education, preventative screenings, and advocacy, I strive to improve the health outcomes of African Americans while ensuring that Black nurses have equitable opportunities to thrive professionally. By addressing these critical areas, we can create a healthier future for our community, where everyone has access to the services and support they need to lead fulfilling lives.
Most Memorable Moment:
As the Fundraising Chair and Historian for the Open Space Mental Health Club at Grambling State University, I have the unique opportunity to combine my passion for mental health awareness with effective organizational skills. My roles have allowed me to contribute significantly to creating a supportive environment for students, fostering open conversations about mental health, and facilitating initiatives that promote well-being on campus. In my position as Fundraising Chair, I am responsible for planning and organizing events that raise funds for the club’s activities. For instance, I recently organized a virtual walkathon, where participants registered online, walked in their neighborhoods, and collected sponsorships from friends and family. As Historian, I maintain detailed records of the club’s activities and accomplishments. This role involves documenting our events through photographs, social media updates, and written reports. For example, documenting our mental health awareness week illustrated how our initiatives provided valuable resources to students, such as workshops, seminars, and counseling sessions. Sharing these records allows for reflection on our growth and encourages a sense of pride among members. Serving as the Fundraising Chair and Historian of the Open Space Mental Health Club at Grambling State University has been a rewarding experience that combines my commitment to mental health advocacy with practical skills in organization and communication.
