My name is Nyshawn Wilkins, and I’m a proud Social Work major at Virginia State University. I chose to attend an HBCU because I value culture, growth, and the power of community. My passion for helping others drives everything I do—I believe that everyone deserves access to support, resources, and opportunities to succeed.

My goal is to build Wilkins Legacy Haven, an organization focused on mental health, crisis shelters, and group homes that empower individuals to rebuild their lives. I want to create safe spaces that promote healing, hope, and long-term stability.

Attending Virginia State University has strengthened my confidence, leadership, and sense of purpose. It has taught me the importance of representation, perseverance, and giving back.

Life & Professional Aspirations:

My inspiration in life comes from my family, my community, and my desire to see others succeed. Growing up, I learned the importance of compassion, hard work, and perseverance by watching the people around me overcome challenges with faith and determination. Their strength motivates me to keep pushing forward and to use my gifts to make a positive difference in the world. Professionally, I’m inspired by leaders in the field of social work who dedicate their lives to helping others heal and grow. I want to follow in their footsteps by creating programs that focus on mental health, crisis support, and community development. My goal is to build Wilkins Legacy Haven, a place that gives individuals hope, guidance, and opportunity. Seeing people transform their lives through support and care is what truly inspires me every day.
