About   (request update)
Jonay Vacari Seay-Oliver is a freshman journalism major in the Freeman Honors College at Texas Southern University with hands-on experience in broadcast, sports, and multimedia journalism. She is a journalist with KTSU2 News, where she researches, writes, and reports campus and community stories in Houston’s Third Ward. As founder and CEO of Visuals by Vacari, Jonay has provided professional photography and media coverage for nationally recognized organizations and events, including the Toyota Chris Paul HBCU Classic. Her experience also includes an apprenticeship with Georgia Public Broadcasting, working alongside award-winning journalists. Passionate about storytelling, community impact, and HBCU media, she is building her name as a dynamic, community-driven journalist.
Current Whereabouts:
I'm a freshman Journalism major at Texas Southern University with a passion for telling sports stories that go beyond the scoreboard. I create spaces where athletes share their voices, helping fans connect with the culture and community behind the game. My experience includes podcast production, social media management, photography, and hands-on training with CBS Reporter Isis Young on broadcasting craft. I’m eager to bring creativity, flexibility, and drive to your team and I’d love to help make your coverage as impactful as the game itself.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
My love for journalism began with a passion for creative writing and reading at seven years old. Now, I want to use the platform I'm building to intertwine sports with educational initiatives, opening doors for individuals of all ages. I also aim to promote inclusivity and mental health awareness in and beyond sports, collaborating with nonprofits to uplift my school, underprivileged youth, and any space where I see an opportunity to make a difference. College is not just a step toward my career; it is a foundation for my lifelong mission to impact the world through journalism, advocacy, and community engagement.

Education   (request update)
Texas Southern University class of 2029
Undergrad Major: Journalism
Claim To Fame:
While performing with Texas Southern University’s Ocean of Soul Platinum Girls—the most distinguished band and baton twirling line in 3rd Ward—I’m building my name as a student journalist. As a member of the Honors College, serving on the Honors Social Media and Community Outreach Committees, and joining the KTSU newscast this semester, I’m working towards being the go-to freshman for storytelling, interviews, and community-focused coverage aimed at helping grow and uplift the TSU and HBCU community.
Most Memorable Moment:
My most memorable college moments thus far have been the times when others have spoken life into me and my goals—whether it’s been TSU administrators, upperclassmen who have been in my shoes before, guest speakers on campus, or even my fellow freshmen. Knowing that they see my potential and hearing their encouragement and suggestions has helped me grow and continue pushing forward.
