A native of Petersburg, Virginia, Mr. McCoy attended Virginia State University, where he earned the Bachelor of Music from Virginia State University in 2000. While at Virginia State, he sang in the University Concert Choir under the direction of Johnnella L. Edmonds, Opera Workshop with Lisa Edward-Burrs and studied applied voice with Martin A. Strother.

During his college years at VSU, he began singing at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church as a tenor soloist in the Parish Choir. In 1998, he assumed his first staff church position as Church Pianist at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Petersburg, where he served until 2002. Upon graduation, he was hired as Director of Music and Organist at Covenant Presbyterian Church from 2000-2006. In addition, he was the Contemporary Musician at First Christian Church in Petersburg from 2004-2006. Following three years of teaching music in the Petersburg Public Schools, he moved to Winchester, VA, where he earned the Master of Music in Church Music from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University.

Relocating to the DC Metropolitan area, he was hired as Minister of Music at Takoma Park Baptist Church where he served as Minister of Music for six years. His choirs have sung in several noted venues, including Constitution Hall, The National Press Club and various churches throughout Washington, D.C.

In addition to his work in the realm of church music, McCoy is a respected classical music and performing arts critic. A crowning achievement in his pantheon of writing is him being recently named the first Performing Arts Columnist for the prestigious Washington Life Magazine in September 2012. Earning a reputation as one of the nation's emerging performing arts journalists, he has interviewed some of the most celebrated musicians of our time, including Martina Arroyo, George Shirley, Diane Bish, Leona Mitchell, Lawrence Brownlee, Denyce Graves, Renée Fleming and Joshua Bell among many others.

Patrick was recently installed as Minister of Music/Organist-Choir Director at Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, D. C., where the Rev'd Canon John T. W. Harmon, is Pastor.

Current Whereabouts:
I recently moved to Largo, MD (PG County). I teach vocal music at Rosa L. Parks Elementary School in Hyattsville, MD and serve as Minister of Music at Takoma Park Baptist Church in Washington, DC.

Johnnella L. Edmonds-Director of Choral Activities. She is one of the fiercest conductors I know. When you can play as well as you sing, thats when you know your are fierce!
