Claim To Fame:
Claim to fame? Well, school at HU was pretty cool. The city of Hampton can be pretty boring, especially if you hang around boring people. I always found a way to have a good time, and take care of business first. I really enjoyed just enjoying the beautiful riverfront views of the campus, Phoebus Beach, and VA Beach. Make sure you plan to have lots of cookouts and invite the whole campus! Since, administration doesn't allow much fun on campus, find a way to make it to the beach!
Most Memorable Moment:
My little sister Monique! My best friend Quanni! Dr. Charles Ponquinette, VP of the treasury, the most caring administrative person to hold office at Hampton Univ in a long time. Dr Wendell Holmes, former chairman of the board of trustees, wonderful guy that helped me find my way from Florida to Hampton. The Student Leadership Program was a great way to really see how the school works and to learn about bureaucracy at its best. The physics department is small, but very loving and supportive. They make sure that each student has a plethra of opportunities for academic growth. The premed advising that goes on is very very limited and it is a shame that the administration is not willing to dedicate more $ to support a full time person to support the 600 some premed students in their quest to become a doctor. Hopefully if enough alumni, current students, and parents get involved, things will change, until then, say hello to low MCAT scores and poor coordination of recommendation letters. My best advice to current HU students, don't let ANYONE tell you no, when you are chasing your dream (or registration, or clearance for taking a weird class load). The Hampton runaround is enough to make anyone crazy, stay calm and be persistent... If all that doesn't work, get your parents to write a letter or make a call to the President's office!!!! It really works!
