Monique McDowell, 26, was born in West Palm Beach, Florida where she attended Westward Elementary School, Bear Lakes Middle, and Suncoast High School. Monique graduated HS in 2000 and left her native state of Florida to attend Howard University in Washington, DC where she graduated in May 2006 recieving her Bachelors of Business Administration majoring in International Business.

Upon graduation, Monique worked as an Distribution Analyst for a year at Payless ShoeSource Inc. corporate headquarters located in Topeka, Kansas. During her brief tenure at Payless Monique kept true to her passion in the community and served United Way of Topeka, March of Dimes and Brown vs. Board of Education. Also, Monique served as a mentor for a resident of, Florence Crittenton, the girl’s shelter in Topeka.

Monique uses poetry as her venue to address issues such as poverty, love, children, racial discrimination, homelessness, and spousal abuse.
