Q&A With Bonita Layson

Why do you love HBCUs?
"I love HBCUs because they are a place where we can develop a strong sense of self confidence and self worth. They provide an opportunity for black students to interact with other black students of similar and non-similar backgrounds and from all walks of life. I love HBCUs because they provide a setting of high intellect and dialog among the best and the brightest students. They offer us a "non-threatening" environment where Black people can be "Black people" without fear or judgment. I love HBCUs because they are a place where we can learn, grow, and even have big fun, if the participate in the process. I love HBCUs because they are a place where we can learn about life and love for self and each other as a people. "

Hi Bonita, I'm still new at all this too, and I just found out what a "poke" is. Somebody visited your site and read you profile. That's all. I have a colleague who is a professor at Hampton. Are you going to the game? Go Tigers!
