Q&A With Ruben Caddell

Tell me something interesting that everyone should know about you?
"I can "adjust" to almost any condition or situation..? Perhaps as a result of my military training and/or my "flexible" personality! When confronted with a 'bad' situation, anger is replaced by logic to assess the problem and subsequently, arrive at a solution. "

Interviewed by Lucy L. Tuckerson 07/16/11

Administrative Hearing Officer, State Of California

Location: Menifee, CA United States

About   (request update)
I did not attend nor did I graduate from an HBCU! I graduated from Cal-State University, Los Angeles in 1973.
I always wanted to attend an HBCU however, instead of applying to an HBCU (Lincoln University), I enlisted in the Marine Corps because my family did not have the resources to support my post secondary education.
Upon my return from the war in Vietnam, I decided to stay in California and attend school in spite of the campus unrest! There were times during that period when I literally wished I was back in Vietnam...!
And, would you believe the federal government would not approve GI Bill benefits for former servicemembers attempting to attend HBCU's??? So, there you have it; another brother on a long list of brothers who got a little help along the way and don't mind saying I got help from people who seem to care! That's hard to find these days!
Don't know if I have done anything special other than getting two retirement plans; one from the military and one from the State Of California!
I was an Administrative Hearing Officer for 26 years and my military career spanned more than 31 years. (Marine Corps/Army Reserve) I retired from both in 2004 but like the "energizer bunny," I just keep on going...!
