About   (request update)
Many say that the sky is the limit; however, this is not the case for writer / director James Bland. For this talented young man, the sky is only the beginning. Born on November 15, 1985 to Bobby and Maria Bland and raised in Titusville, a small town on the east coast of central Florida, James is a prime example that big things can come from small places. Standing at 6’6”, James has always stood out amongst the crowd.

James interest in entertainment and the arts has been long standing. As a child, he would coordinate his own one-man talent show and perform in front of his parents. He began to write, direct and perform comedic plays for his church at the age of sixteen.

Throughout high school, James was the captain of his varsity basketball and track team and had hopes of playing sports on the college level; however, he put sports aside when he receive a full academic scholarship to Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida.

While at FAMU, James became actively involved in student politics, activism and activities. He held numerous positions on campus including Freshman and Sophomore Class Vice-President, President of the Campus Activities Board, and Vice-President of the Student Government Association where he represented over 11,000 students. In addition, James along with other student leaders, lead hundred of students in a historical march to the state capitol to protest the non-guilty verdict of 8 boot camp workers who brutally killed 14-year-old Martin Lee Anderson in a Bay County Boot camp.

During his junior year of college, James began to act on an independent television drama series titled “My Brother’s Keeper” which was being filmed in Tallahassee. Being apart of this project sparked James passion for filmmaking. He developed a friendship with the show creator and director, Lamont Carswell, and the two partnered up a year later to create James’ debut film Dreaming in Color.

In the spring of 2008, James graduated from FAMU with a degree in Business Administration. He is currently working as an actor, producer and writer for “My Brother’s Keeper” which is in production of its second season.
