Attending an HBCU would be perfect for me since there aren't many of African-American descent in the Japanese anime/manga creation field. It is my passion and where my career path is headed with all the determination I can produce. It would be such an accomplish to receive the valuable education and life experience that can only be had at FAMU. There is an award winning Arts program there, the location is in a state I've dreamed of living in for many years and the opportunities to develop my natural skills with hands on internships can not be pushed aside.

Japanese manga are a version of American graphic novels. I have been creating, building, developing characters, writing storylines and plot concepts since I was 10 years old. My visual arts education to date has been mostly self taught via the internet, some animation classes at a local art galler, a children's activity/comic book created for a government agency, art projects for school events, various contest submissions and juried exhibitions. I am fully aware that I've needed and will benefit from all sources of arts education; however, it is definitely time for me to expand my knowledge base with more intense learning in actual visual arts training.

Professionally, my goal is to be one of the first, if not one the first, successful main stream Japanese anime/manga artists of African-American descent, who tells stories from a young black man's experience. Personally, it would solidify that my natural passion for creativity can be enjoyed by and inspire a whole world of people outside my family, friends and local community. I do believe there are many who look like and think like me that will appreciate what I have to offer. FAMU would be a wonderful place to continue my journey.
