AK Cabell is “The Brand Nubian Queen ” A freelance writer originally from Seattle, she now lives and works in Baltimore, MD. She writers extensively on the African American consumer, brand marketing, family and work life issues, pop culture, and green living for people of color. She is a regular contributor to Brand channel.com, and she has written for Black Issues Book Review, E the Environmental Magazine, Heart and Soul, and BET Weekend. Cabell is also one of several hundred writers who contributed to the African American National Biography, edited by famed scholars Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham (Oxford University Press, 2008).

What thoughts keep you awake at night?

Current Whereabouts:

Writing and blogging about brand marketing and the African American consumer, brands owned by Black-owned companies, also writing about pop culture, green living and work+family life

Life & Professional Aspirations:

Understanding AA consumer spending power, understanding more and more about the marketing and advertising world--writing about people who've changed their lives and made a tremendous impact on the world through various fields, being the best mother and wife I can be to my family by taking care of myself first.

Undergrad Major: English

High School: Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, WA class of 1989

Activities & Accomplishments:

I honestly can't remember them all! Wasn't a laundry list of achievements, but it had weight! AP English and Art, Speech and Debate Team, Black Student Union...

Best Memories:

Listening to my English teachers talk passionately about writers, poets and playwrights; also, staying in the art room during lunch time to work on a masterpiece!
