Tom M. Jones is a multi-award winning marketing expert in public relations, advertising, strategic planning and communications, and higher education marketing. His roots are in writing, copywriting and communications, originally starting in radio in news and on-air talent then later going into management. He later transitioned into higher education with positions in the New Jersey Public Higher Education system before returning to advertising & marketing in Raleigh, NC.

A native of Washington, DC, he attended McKinley Tech Senior High School, then Howard University. His radio career began while in college to help pay his expenses and worked a second job at The Washington Post. He continued in broadcasting in DC, working in two other facilities in management and volunteered as a program producer with the U.S. Marines. He was recruited in 1971 as a producer/on-air talent with WHUR-FM. After leaving to work with WMAL as network producer for the Washington Redskins & Maryland University, he returned to WHUR-FM in 1974 as general manager. By 1977 he accepted a position as Marketing/Merchandising director with RKO-FM Broadcasting in New York City. By 1980 Tom transitioned into national advertising as a producer and copywriter at McCann Worldwide. He became an adjunct instructor in communications at various institutions and in 1989, left NY and stepped into full time employ in higher education as public relations director at Ramapo College of NJ, While there, he completed the Master of Science in Educational Technology program and a certification program in Computer Policy and Law at Cornell University. In 1999, he took the position of vice president for marketing at William Paterson University (Wayne, NJ).

In 2001, Tom moved to North Carolina and became vice president at Webb Patterson Communications in Durham, where he was responsible for creative development, strategic planning, and public relations packaging. His creative work has been seen, read, and heard throughout the Southeast for pharmaceutical clients Allergan, Inc., GSK (Goodys and BC), and the National Medical Association.

He has written numerous commercials for North Carolina’s “Strike Out Stroke” campaign and produced a national half-time TV spot for Duke University Men’s Basketball.

In 2004, he received the Kinney-Marrow Media Award from North Carolina A & T University in recognition for his outstanding career in the media industry. He has several national awards for outstanding creativity, including two coveted Clio’s (nominated for five) in advertising. He is a five-time winner of the New York Market Broadcaster’s award and has earned three TELLY awards in cable television.

As senior radio producer and copywriter at McCann Worldwide in New York, Tom's scripts and productions were seen and heard by millions of viewers who enjoyed the taste of Coca-Cola, the Nestlé’s Quik Bunny, and network promos for NBC-TV daytime and prime-time shows. While in New York he directed the radio campaign for legendary New York Yankee, Reggie Jackson’s autobiography.

A former newscaster and manager in broadcasting, a commercial voice-over specialist and a copywriter in advertising, Tom was the first African American network radio producer for the NFL’s Washington Redskins. He is one of the original “pioneers” who created Howard University’s WHUR-FM, Washington, DC, the blueprint for urban music and talk radio.


In June 2005 Tom launched the virtual advertising and marketing firm, Beckwith Bay, LLC. The firm specializes in web development, strategic communications, public relations, and corporate branding with clients in and outside of North Carolina. At one time he also served as writer/editor for the Triangle Urban League newsletter.

Additional writing credits include free lance columnist for the News & Observer’s “North Raleigh News”; co-author (with David F. Salter) of the book, "Blueprint for Success: An In-Depth Analysis of NCAA Division III Athletics..."; articles in COMMERCE magazine (NJ); CD liner notes for musician Bernard Harris (NC), and the Piano Choir (NY); book liner notes for authors David F. Salter and Allan Gorman; and numerous articles for magazines and newsletters.
Today, he is a partner in Faucon Blu Marketing & Communications (Raleigh, NC).

Building the agency, Faucon Blu Marketing in Raleigh, NC. Developing an animation education project.
