Lieutenant Jarques A. Wheeler, Sr., MS is a native of Unadilla, GA. He attended schools in Dooly County and is 1990 graduate of Dooly County High School.
Lieutenant Wheeler is currently assigned as the Albany State University Police Department Investigations Commander for the Criminal Investigations Division. He has served the Albany State University Police Department since January 2008.
His present duties include, collect and preserve physical evidence, prepare warrants, work in concert with other law enforcement agencies, prepare for and attend grand jury presentations, apprehend/arrest perpetrators and maintain ongoing case files until disposition has occurred.
Lieutenant Wheeler served as a military police officer for nine years both active and reserve in the U.S. Army and Georgia Army National Guard. He served as a uniformed patrolman for three years prior to his appointment as Chief of Police in 2000. He was an assistant chief of police for several agencies as well. Lieutenant Wheeler has both, a Bachelors and a Masters in criminal justice. He is a Certified Marijuana Identification Examiner. Lieutenant Wheeler is a graduate of the Chief Executive Training Program for New Chiefs of Police in Georgia.
Prior to his service with the Albany State University Police Department, Lieutenant Wheeler was a patrol officer with the Terrell County, (GA) Sheriff’s Department. He also served as a reserve officer with the Fort Valley State University Police Department. He currently has over 10 years of combined Law Enforcement experience.
Lieutenant Wheeler is married with 3 children and now lives in Albany, GA.
