About   (request update)
According to Webster’ Dictionary the definition of family is parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not. In each family the `roles for one vary. In some families maybe the mother has all of the responsibilities, but maybe in another family the father might have all of the responsibilities. The fact of the matter is that in a family each individual has his or her own important role that contributes to the dynamics of the family.
The role which I contribute to my family is that of the poet. I have always had a passion for poetry. I started writing in the fifth grade, but I always talked about writing since I was a little girl. I always wanted others to be influenced by my poetry. My favorite poet of all times is Maya Angelou. To me, Ms. Angelou’s writing encourages me as a writer and helps me to continue writing. Whether I am aware of it or not, I believe someone can be affected by my poetry.
Since the fifth grade, I have written over hundreds of poems. My poems do not
have a certain theme because I write on all topics. I have written poems on Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day, AIDS, Birthdays, Deaths, Sweet Sixteen’s, Love, and Friendship. Over the years there have been many occasions when my poetry has been published in magazines and I have received various awards. People have asked me to write poems for specific events and to read them in front of crowds. The person in my family that relies on me the most is my mother. When one of my mothers’ friends, or co-workers, or just a person in general needs a poem, my mother will come and let me know. I will write the poem for whomever the person maybe. It makes me feel special when people ask me to write poems, and then they come back and say, “Thanks Winter, that poem was touching.”
People where I live know me as the poet. My teachers from fifth grade until now which is twelfth grade still have my poetry framed or still carry it around with them. My mom has always been supportive of my writing poetry, and she encourages me to continue writing, because that is one of my best talents.
