Q&A With Melissa Scales

About   (request update)
Current Whereabouts:
I am attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. While checking the list of HBCU colleges and universities, unfortunately, I did not find ANY in Arizona, which I feel is a great disservice to minorities like myself who are not living in the South. I could not submit this form without choosing an HBCU, thus, I had to enter the nearest HBCU college in Texas. In this day and age, after the Civil Rights movement and the struggle of minorities to become equal, Arizona should have an HBCU college!
Education   (request update)
Texas Southern University class of 2007
Undergrad Major: Environmental Science
Claim To Fame:
During college, I plan to study Microbiology, Statistics, and Ecology. I am currently attending Northern Arizona University, which has very few minority students. This has been somewhat intimidating. However, I am determined to finish my degree. After college, I plan to become an environmental scientist or a bioengineer. In addition to math and science, I love studying world cultures! I am currently teaching myself Japanese and traditional kimono dress. Someday, I hope to go to Japan and learn traditional geisha dance.
Most Memorable Moment:
My most memorable person in community college was my English teacher. Although I don't recall her name, she has indefinitely left a great impression on me. I have learned how to look for and see hidden messages and ideas within books, newspaper articles, etc., how to find irony and symbolism. Simply put, my English teacher opened my mind to a new level.
