I was born in the San Fernando Valley in 1989. I lived in a trailer for a great potion of my childhood. The roof would leak and my blankets would get soaked every winter. I lived in what is best known as the "ghetto" or possibly even worse. But that can I say? My experiences have shaped who I am. They have molded me into the self confident and intellectual grown woman I am today. Growing up while lacking the things that I desire has helped me to push for what I want. To push for success. I enjoy helping out in the community. It is my passion. And I have learned a lot from it. I've learned that just as you can learn from others helping you, you can learn a lot from helping others. That there will always be people who will appreciate what you do for them and others who wont, they'll just see it like its your job. I learned that building connections is important, they can make the difference between you getting a scholaraship, or not getting it, between you getting the job you want, or not getting it. I learned that a lot of people dont want to do community service and help make the world a better place because they have the "i dont want to work for free type attitude," but the inner satisfaction that you get from helping others is priceless. But most importantly I learned that patience, hard work, and dedication will always pay off. Getting involved in my community, being involved in school activities and sports, as well as academic excellence is what got me the Gates Millenium Scholarahip. To be one of the 1000/10000 who applied and actually won it is an accomplishment. My family came to this country because they wanted to ensure their children the educational opportunities that they lacked while growing up. I am the first of my family to attend college and this makes me feel like i've already made their hard work and sacrifices worthwhile. It feels good to know that one of the wealthiest men wants to help me fund my education. To know that I will graduate from San Diego State University debt free as a result of me helping others is truly a blessing.

To graduate from San Diego State University in the Spring of 2011 with a major in aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics and a minor in spanish. I plan to join the airforce upon graduating from San Diego State to hopefully be able to become a commercial pilot.
I would have to say that the most memorable person whose conference I was able to attend so far through my college experience was Mr. Bill Gates Sr. His wise words were ones that were engraved in my mind. He is such an amazing person.

Hello Jasmine thanks for approving my friendship fellow SDSU grad, I saw the building amongst your photos this may sound strange but in order to procure extra cash I used to unbuff, buff, the rooms during the summer and clean the restrooms. From the money that I made I was able to party on Saturday nights and pay for my books and classes. Currently I am teaching English in Munsan, South Korea at Papyong Elementary. I loved your profile, ambition and aspirations, stay on that path because to me it is incredible. When I return to America in a few years I will be writing Screenplays which is one of my life's passions. I hope to find you doing some marvelous things with your life. Of course I wish you the best in whatever path you decide to take in life.
